Swim Well’s Lesson & Development programme is made up of 3 areas:

Incorporated into our Swimming lessons is our ever successful and popular Begin Well Learn to Swim programme.

No matter what your age or ability – if you need to learn how to swim or even just brush up on your strokes, Begin Well is the programme for you!

Under 4’s lessons

Our  Begin Well programme caters for parents with babies from aged 4 months to 36 months. Adult and Child classes are available for children aged 2 1/2 to 3 years and are designed to encourage children to learn to be independant in the water ready for our Duckling classes for pre school children aged 3 – 4yrs.

From 4 years onwards, children can join our main Begin Well programme which follows the ASA Learn to Swim Framework. These lessons are available at ALL of our pools – contact your local pool to find out more regarding availability.

Age 4 months – 2 & a half years

The best age for babies to start pool activities is around this age. These are called Baby Splash sessions with adult and child sessions with the assistance of swimming teacher who can teach your children water safety and movement through structured play and exercise. The sessions are available at most of our centres, see our pool timetables.

Adult & Child – age 2 and a half – 3 years

Our Adult and Child sessions run in most of our centres at various times throughout the week. These are specifically designed for children age 3 and under  to help gain basic skills in the water and need to develop confidence to be able to swim independantly – with mum and or dad/carer there for support if needed. Develop Well Programme Options

Synchronised Swimming
Synchronised Swimming is designed to encourage children - boys and girls to learn the basic synchro moves whilst having fun and building confidance in the water.

We currently run Synchronised Swimming at Sale Leisure Centre, for more information contact Sale here.

Lifeguard/lifesaving
Learn how to save a life and stay safe in and around water. The Rookie Lifeguard programme is developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK the leading provider for water safety education.

Avaliable at our leisure centres, contact us for more information

Water Polo
A great way for children to become involved in the team game of water polo. Build on your newly acquired water skills developing the basics of the game, how to throw, catch and move with the ball in the water. Great fun!

To play water polo you need to be very fit, strong and fast at swimming. Even when not involved in play, as you can’t touch the sides or floor of the pool and must tread water. But there are enough players in a squad for every player to have a substitute to switch in for them whenever they want, as often as they need. For more information on joining a water polo team please email Stretford Sports Village Swim Well Manager or visit www.stretfordasc.org.uk for more information.

To complete the natural progression from Begin Well lessons, to Develop Well clubs and on to the Perform Well clubs, Trafford has its own performance clubs at our leisure centres.

An all-inclusive programme

Our Lessons & development is an ‘all inclusive programme’ which takes the non swimmer from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.

From paddling pool to podium Trafford Leisure in partnership with our local swimming clubs are committed to providing the very best in teaching, coaching and development of swimmers.

Why not join and register your child on the Begin Well Programme and let them start their swimmer pathway. Regardless of age or ability the journey through aquatics will be exciting, fun and will result in the development of a wide range of life skills.
