Swim Well – Main Lesson Programme (Learn to Swim)
This is our main lesson programme working through stages 1 – 7 of the Swim England lesson frame work.
For ages 4+
Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 1 helps to build water confidence, while introducing water safety skills and the basic skills needed to build swimming ability.
Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 2 sees swimmers develop streamlining to their strokes and travel without their feet on the floor, using a recognised leg kick.
During Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 3, swimmers will develop their kicks, on both their front and their back.
Refining strokes to Swim England expected standards developing kick, breathing and increasing distances.
During Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 5, swimmers will develop their skills in treading water, learn the correct arm pulls for all four strokes and learn how to do handstands and somersaults.
Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 6 teaches swimmers how to prepare for exercise, while developing an efficient technique for all four strokes and further developing surface dives.
Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 7 focuses on fully developing all four swimming strokes, as well as building stamina and improving diving skills.
So now you’re able to swim, you may well ask what’s next?
The develop well programme offers a variety of water based activities to further your aquatic skills, which include learning to dive, essential lifesaving skills, the team game of water polo, synchronised swimming and competitive swimming.
Swim Well – Stages 8 – 10
Develop your skills further choosing from various different aquatic disciplines or the potential to join one of the Boroughs swimming clubs.
Swim Well Programme Options
Choose one of the options from below:
Synchronised Swimming is designed to encourage children - boys and girls to learn the basic synchro moves whilst having fun and building confidence in the water.
Learn how to save a life and stay safe in and around water. The Rookie Lifeguard programme is developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK the leading provider for water safety education.
A great way for children to become involved in the team game of water polo. Build on your newly acquired water skills developing the basics of the game, how to throw, catch and move with the ball in the water. Great fun!
To play water polo you need to be very fit, strong and fast at swimming; even when not involved in play, as you can’t touch the sides or floor of the pool and must tread water. But there are enough players in a squad for every player to have a substitute to take over for them whenever they want, as often as they need. For more information on joining a water polo team please email Stretford Sports Village Swim Well Manager or visit www.stretfordasc.org.uk for more information.
ALPHA DISABILITY LESSONS
Alpha swimming lessons are part of the Begin Well swim program offering an inclusive opportunity for children with additional needs or special circumstances to help them learn to swim. We want to provide the opportunity for every child to learn to swim and so we have a time limit of 18 months on the Alpha lessons or until they can swim 50 meters unaided, whichever comes first.
Customers enquiring about Alpha Lessons should complete the online enquiry form below, which we will endeavor to respond to within 7 days. After this the Swim Well Manager will contact you to complete a medical declaration form. A practical assessment will then be arranged at a mutually agreed time to review the needs of the child to help decide which pathway the child would be most suited to.
You will then be advised on the next steps for your child, this will either be on the Alpha lessons at Partington or Stretford, a suitable stage of our Begin Well programme offered at all sites, or another more beneficial provision for your child’s development. We will recommend a site and programme based on your child’s need and not on location preference and we cannot guarantee your preferred site.
