Successful ‘boots room’ amnesty for The Michael Carrick Foundation
We've found the best ways to get rid of that excess weight you've put on over the festive period! We've used Dave from accounts as our guineapig to give you a first hand account of the experience.
The Michael Carrick Foundation teamed up with Trafford Leisure this summer to run a very successful Boots Room Campaign. Running from July to the end of September the foundation collected hundreds of old and unwanted football boots. These boots are being cleaned, bagged and redistributed to children at local community football sessions, groups and grassroots clubs.
Michael Carrick is one of the most decorated English footballers of all time, and has 701 career appearances for club and country. Carrick is best known for his twelve year career at Manchester United. Following his retirement from professional football in May, Carrick has joined the coaching staff at Manchester United. He launched the Michael Carrick Foundation in Spring 2017, with the objective to invest in sporting, social and educational programmes that will improve children’s life chances.
Jo Cherrett, COO, Trafford Leisure says: “We were delighted to support the fantastic work of the Michael Carrick Foundation. Trafford Leisure not only had boot drop off points across our facilities but we also supported this project by creating and providing all the posters and marketing materials for the campaign. Both Trafford Leisure and the Michael Carrick Foundation are committed to increasing the long term participation of disadvantaged groups in sport. Sport must be accessible to all. Donating unused boots is a very effective way of getting the appropriate footwear to our local children, ensuring their experience of ‘exercise’ is positive and enduring.”
Michael Carrick says: “Thank you to every single person who donated their boots to our boot room campaign. I’m overwhelmed that through the generosity of the people of Manchester we have so many boots to distribute. What’s been so good is seeing so many kids happily handing over their old boots knowing they are going to help others.
“It’s fantastic that Trafford Leisure supported the work of the Michael Carrick Foundation and the Carrick’s Boot Room Campaign. I’m confident that the boots you donated will make a real and meaningful difference to the kids in our local area.”
The success of the campaign has prompted the Michael Carrick Foundation to run a similar project in Tyne and Wear in the future.
The Michael Carrick Foundation has provided funding for the next three years for the Carrick’s Street Redsfootball club which runs at Trafford Leisure’s Old Trafford Sports Barn, every Monday and Friday evening for children aged eight to nineteen.
